Surfing in the rain 🌧️

Atualizado: há 6 dias

Plenty of people ask if we can still surf when it’s raining. The answer is simple: why not? We’re already in the water, wearing wetsuits — it doesn’t get more waterproof than that! 😅 Below you’ll find five reasons why you should go surfing next time it rains.

1) You’re Already Wet — Why you can't be even more?

Once you are in the water, you’ll barely notice the rain. The water temperature stays the same, and the feeling of droplets hitting the ocean’s surface can actually be super beautiful & calming. There’s something special about watching the tiny splashes of rain dance around your board while you wait for your next wave. The wetsuit covers both the ocean and the rain water while you are surfing.

2) Less Crowds, More Waves

Rainy days tend to scare off casual surfers and beachgoers — which means fewer people surfing and around you. You get more waves, more space, and a peaceful vibe that’s hard to find on a sunny day. If you love the feeling of having a spot almost to yourself, rainy sessions are gold.

3) Rainy Days in Cascais Aren’t That Cold

A lot of people think that rain automatically means cold weather — but that’s not true here in Cascais! Our rainy days usually come with low-pressure systems from the south or west, bringing warm, humid air. When the wind blows from the north or east, that’s when it gets chilly — but those winds actually block the rain. So, when it’s raining, it’s often surprisingly mild and comfortable in the water. The air and ocean temperatures stay steady all day, and even the nights are pleasantly warm. In other words: rain in Cascais doesn’t mean freezing — it means cozy, glassy waves and a wetsuit that feels just right.

4) A Unique Connection with Nature

Surfing in the rain feels different. The light is softer, the air is slightly fresher, and everything around you seems quieter. It’s just you, the ocean, and the sound of the rain. It’s a pure, meditative experience that reminds us why we fell in love with surfing in the first place. Plus sometimes you get lucky and see amazing rainbows 🌈

5) Stay Safe and Smart

Of course, it’s always important to surf safely. Avoid going out during heavy storms, lightning, or if the water looks dirty after big downpours (especially near river mouths). A light or moderate rain, though? Totally fine! 🤩

🌊 So Next Time It Rains…

Don’t let a few drops stop you. Grab your board, zip up your wetsuit, and go have fun.Surfing in the rain isn’t just “okay” — it’s one of those little adventures that makes you feel more alive and connected to the ocean.

Obs: The hot ''galão'' (coffee with milk) and warm pastel de natal will taste much better afterward😋

See you in the lineup — no matter the weather! 🤙
