One of the questions we get asked the most is: what should I bring for my surf lesson? Today. We answer it:

Be it summer or winter, you need protection for your skin. It doesn’t matter if it is cloudy or even raining. You will be outdoors and there will be UV rays hitting your skin. The ideal kind of sunscreen for surf lessons is Zinc, as it keeps you protected for longer (and is less harmful for the environment). If you do not have it, you can always buy it at the Villa.

After two hours of intense exercise, you will need to drink water. The sun and salty ocean also play a factor in you dehydration, so please bring a water bottle with you (preferably not plastic). We also got you covered at the Villa with our Surf Cascais personalized double wall insulated water bottles.

Everyone gets dressed around the vans in the parking lot, so your towel or poncho will have a double function: on one hand it will get you dry after the lesson; on the other hand, it gives you some privacy to change into your swimwear. You can rent beach towels at the Villa if needed :)

We provide adequate wetsuits for all lessons. But since these are the school’s wetsuits, we advise everyone to bring comfortable bikinis/bathing suits/shorts to use underneath the wetsuit. The smaller the board shorts are the best, since it gets more comfortable under the wetsuit.

We always encourage people to bring comfortable clothes. You can come in high fashion designs if you wish, but nothing beats a comfy set of clothes after exercise. If you have an early morning or late afternoon lesson, we advise bringing that trusty sweater, even if it is summer. We have a large collection of comfy sweaters, hoodies, t-shirts, bennies & socks to keep you warm and stylish during you surf holidays!

We truly believe that fun and learning go hand in hand, but we have also noticed that they depend on our students’ willingness to 1) tell us what they want and 2) to listen to the instructor’s advice. So bring an inquisitive and fun-oriented mindset and you will enjoy your lesson a lot more!
